About

Born in Jerusalem, Hagai began his musical journey on the classical guitar at the age of 10. Since then he moved to the double bass and the worlds of jazz. Only at the age of 24, after returning from a three-year stay in New York, where he was part of the city’s jazz scene, did he return to the local music of the Middle East, thanks to the meeting with oud master Nino Biton. Following this, he deepened his research in Arabic music in particular, and completed a master’s degree at the Academy of Music in the class of Prof. Taiseer Elias, continuing to visit his first bass teacher Prof. Michael Klinghoffer. Since then, Hagai has been providing the low frequencies in almost every possible musical ensemble in the world music scene in Israel, and has collaborated with many musicians from around the world. At the same time, Hagai continues the vision of his teacher Nino Biton, and transmits Andalusian and Algerian music to students at the JAMD, while musically directing “Hamadrasa”, an orchestra for Andalusian music.
